France, Italy: Differing Views on Iran Threat

Settembre 2007 - 5:51President Nicolas Sarkozy of France, known for his frank manner, directly accused Iran of seeking nuclear weapons and suggested tougher United Nations sanctions. “Iran is trying to acquire a nuclear bomb,” he said flatly, though he added that negotiations were still possible. In Rome, Mohamed ElBaradei, the chief United Nations nuclear inspector, said Iran did not pose an immediate threat. But in an interview with Italian RAI television, he added, “Iran has not yet completely revealed all the aspects of its nuclear program.”.
