Public sector strikes cause day of chaos in Germany

Germany was plunged into chaos yesterday as striking public sector workers crippled airports, railway stations, bus routes and rubbish collections. Kindergartens and hospital wards closed down, motorways were gridlocked for hours and policemen threatened to join in from today.
