A military spokesman said that the new version of the Hatf-VII, or Babur missile — which has a range of 700km (435 miles) — would strengthen the country's strategic capabilities and national security. The missile, which was first test-fired in 2005, is capable of striking targets deep inside India, its main rival in the region.
