World Briefing | Europe: Britain: Al Qaeda Threatens Attacks
[NYT - Europe
] - 11. Luglio 2007 - 4:19The second in command of Al Qaeda threatened Britain with more attacks for honoring the novelist Salman Rushdie, considered a blasphemer by some Muslims. The threat, by Ayman al-Zawahri, surfaced on the Internet a week and a half after failed car bombings in Glasgow and London. Mr. Zawahri said Britain’s Middle East strategy “has brought tragedy and defeat upon you, not only in Afghanistan and Iraq but also in the center of London,” apparently a reference to the July 7, 2005, suicide bombings that killed 52 people. “And if you did not understand, listen, we are ready to repeat it for you.”.
